Moments Given: 1999

These photographs are a few of my favorite images from my first project Moments Given, which I completed while I was in my 2nd year of undergraduate study. At the time I was studying abroad through the Semester At Sea program. For me, this opportunity to travel around the world while studying the cultures I was encountering helped me to look deeper into myself and to my connection with the world around me. I feel these photographic moments reflect that and remind me of the importance of being present in every moment. “To take a photograph means to recognize – simultaneously and within a fraction of a second– both the fact itself and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms that give it meaning. It is putting one’s head, one’s eye and one’s heart on the same axis.” Henri Cartier-Bresson
